BSSC Year 12 student, Emily Every, recently spent a week of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) onsite in a variety of locations with Jake Ryan Building & Construction.
This experience has helped to enhance Emily’s skillset, which she has obtained in her VET Building & Construction studies at BSSC. Emily now has great insight into the industry and loves that every day is different for a builder.
Emily was tasked with concreting preparation, setting out for a new house build on vacant land, and some demolition on an existing house that is undergoing renovations and an extension.
On the final day, Emily assisted with pulling up protective floor covering in a new house which is getting to its final stages.
“Jake and the team have been so good to work with,” Emily says. “I’ve loved everything about the week—even the early starts!”
The SWL placement has confirmed for Emily that she would like to obtain an apprenticeship in building once she’s finished school.
