Over one thousand people visited the Ulumbarra foyer and theatre last Sunday to explore all that BSSC has on offer for prospective students—which was pretty much any subject you could wish to name.

There were students from every college in Bendigo as well as number from further away including Kerang, Gisborne and Sunbury.

With the doors barely open, the crowd quickly filled the foyer creating the buzz of hundreds of conversations, as well as a sense of curiosity around displays representing every learning area.

Comments from parents and students were universally positive—referring to the well-organised nature of the day, the obvious diversity of subjects and the enthusiasm of staff.

“I know I want to come to this school, but I have no idea which subjects I want to do, so I’m finding this day very helpful,” said one student. “So many choices!” said another. “I’m in a great place between overwhelmed and very very pleased.”

One student who is keen to enter the police force explained that the technologies and sport on offer were also important to him. Another, presently in Year 9, said she was attending to ensure the choices she made for Year 10 would lead to her preferred subjects at BSSC in 2019. Some students were considering a change from another college and “loving the broad range of subjects.” Many took the opportunity to enrol or joined the ‘How to enrol online’ help sessions.

Open Day was also a chance to explore the layout of buildings and facilities. Student representatives did a great job with school tours.

The BSSC community looks forward to welcoming our new Year 11 students in 2018.
