Tuesday was big day for Year 11 Business Management students as they presented their Product Design ideas to representatives of the Commonwealth Bank as part of the Partner a Class program.

The day began with a live video stream from Sydney with the CBA’s Executive General Manager of Business & Corporate Finance George Confos. Mr Confos spoke to students about his own journey from Year 11 to a career in finance and urged them to take every opportunity that comes their way, “no matter how uncomfortable it makes you”.

“The people you meet and trust along the way will help to shape your career,” he said. “Keep preparing yourself for the ‘next big thing’.”

Students then presented their product ideas to Andrew Roberts, Rebecca Dunsmuir and Darren Cruikshanks also from the Commonwealth Bank, and received fantastic feedback on all aspects of their research and presentation.

The day represented a chance for students to put all the coaching they’ve received over the past year into action—and they did so with confidence and professionalism, using case studies, graphs, personal experiences and their research into customer behaviour.

Products included Youth Jump Starter account, a personal finance app called Comm-SAVE, and a fingerprint transaction and tracking model to protect customers’ personal identity.

Director Market Positioning and Engagement at Commonwealth Bank, Andrew Roberts, who has been working closely with the students since the beginning of the year, said he was impressed with the way students had embraced the challenge.

“There were moments in each of the presentations where the students really took control of the situation, and it was totally engaging,” he said. “They’ve come a long way from the original brainstorming sessions back in April.”

The Partner a Class program continues to inspire students and prepare them for careers in all areas of business and finance. Congratulations to all those who stepped out their comfort zones last Tuesday and did such an amazing job.eep their options open.
