ISAAC BUCKELL CLAIMS BRONZE AT JUNIOR WORLD TRACK CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fantastic achievement for Isaac Buckell (riding with Godfrey Slattery), claiming a bronze medal in the Madison event at the 2017 Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Montichiari, Italy.

The green and gold jerseys of Buckell and Slattery were seen near the front throughout the 120 lap race. A strong start with points in five of the first six sprints saw Australia locked in a three way battle with Denmark and Russia as Australia held a two point lead at the half way point. As the high pace started to take a toll on the bunch the Danish team were able to lap the field giving them breathing room at the head of the race and secure gold. The battle for silver and bronze between Australia and Russia went down to the final sprint with Australia taking second giving them a total of 23 points, but Russia’s third saw them narrowly take silver on 25.

Isaac also picked up a sixth placing in the Team Pursuit event earlier in the championships.
