Volleyball – SSV finals

Congratulations to our girls volleyball team which reached the semi-finals of the State Schools Victoria (SSV) state finals in Melbourne last week. At the end of the round-robin, the girls were second in their pool with two wins and a loss, and this put them into a semi-final against Keysborough College. In a highly skilled and closely fought contest, the girls finally went down two sets to one, with the final set being 22–20. Great result from our team of Talitha Alexander, Maddie Betts, Caitlin Johns, Hannah Lewon, Taylor Mann, Lily Somerville, Lisa Ung, Loreena Vincent, and coach Monica Isip. We are in the state’s top four – well done!!

Our boys volleyball team also played competitively at the State finals. They were in a very tough pool, coming up against traditional volleyball powerhouses Maribyrnong, Eltham and Rowville. A measure of their form on the day was highlighted by their narrow loss (20–18, 33–31) to the eventual champions, Maribyrnong. Well done to the team of Dillon Gauci, Lachie Hill, Tarran Kilcullen, Matthew McSwain, Lachie Parkinson, Matt Poulter, Chris Roberts, Lachie Tranter, Jordan Wanefalea, Tom Wigney, and coach, Jimmy Shelton.

Badminton teams through to SSV finals

Great result for our badminton teams, with the boys and girls teams both progressing to the SSV finals in Melbourne on August 17. At this week’s Loddon Mallee Region finals, the girls had a really tight match against Kerang. Both teams won two singles matches and one double match, with the overall result being decided on points and BSSC came out on top by just five points. The boys had an easier passage through, winning all four singles and both doubles matches against Swan Hill.

Girls team: Olivia Graham, Sally Warren, Leanna Harrington, Sixiao Chen

Boys team: Mitch Kemp, Hayden Eriksson, Zhi Xu, Cheng’En Lin, Zhiling Liu

Both teams were coached by Scott Collier.

Lodden Mallee Region table tennis finals

Mixed results for our table-tennis teams at the Loddon Mallee Region finals, with the boys defeating Mildura and progressing to the SSV finals to be held on August 15. But the girl’s opponents from McKillop College were a little too good. The boys won three of their four singles, and both doubles matches, to win very comfortably. The girls were successful in one doubles and one singles match, but were very competitive in all others.

Boys team: Keelan Bertuch, North Ketkaew, Dinghao Huo, Tyler Rainbow, Douglas Decker

Girls team: Emily Mannix, Andrea Steel, Asha Tuohey, Jasmine Spedding, Hannah Mavromoustakakis
