BSSC’s Specialist Sports students heard from one of the country’s hardest working athletes on Thursday as they gathered to celebrate their peers’ successes on the State and National sporting stages.

This year’s BSSC Elite Sport Stars Luncheon welcomed Rio Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Josh Beaver, who spoke to students about his journey in sport and the challenges he faced along the way to swimming a personal best time in Rio.

Josh talked about what it takes for an elite athlete to look after their mind and body, the joy of qualifying for the Rio games, and the recurring ‘0.2 of a second’ that has dogged his swimming career to date.

Students had the opportunity to chat over lunch with Josh and the other special guests, including Mayor Rod Fyffe, Bendigo Pioneers Coach Brett Henderson, and Bendigo Academy of Sport Executive Officer Graham Gordon.

The Elite Sport Stars Luncheon is in its 10th year and celebrates the achievements of BSSC students who have competed at State and National levels.
