Congratulations to Year 11 student Genevieve Somerville who has had her story selected by Alice Pung for inclusion in Black Inc.’s My First Lesson anthology.
The publisher’s commented that her work was “well written and compelling, convincingly built on a consistently sustained metaphor and with a powerful message at the end.”
Genevieve also won first prize in the Children’s and Young Adult Writers and Illustrators Conference for an illustrated picture book.
Katrina Lehman, Senior Editor for Penguin Random House, selected Genevieve’s interpretation of the Hansel and Gretel story using felting techniques.
