You are invited to the launch of Belonging in Bendigo – an exhibition featuring the works of six young Karen locals with refugee backgrounds. BSSC congratulates our students Htoo Gay Ku and Wah Doh Htoo who have their work showcased in the exhibition.
Belonging in Bendigo explores the importance of belonging for young people with refugee backgrounds living in Greater Bendigo. It features artworks and performances by Htoo Gay Ku, Lwe Pree, NC Aung, Pan Pah Thei, Tun Tun Naing and Wah Doh Htoo, created under the mentorship of local artists and musicians Forest Keegel, Julie Andrews and Ruth Kennedy.
The exhibition emerges out of a participatory arts-based research project led by Dr Caitlin Nunn (Durham University, Victoria University). It’s part of a cross-national study of belonging among young people with refugee backgrounds living in regional cities in Australia and the United Kingdom.
