BSSC student Leisha Maggs has been paid the ultimate accolade for her 2015 academic performance, receiving a coveted Premier’s Award at a ceremony at the Crown Palladium on Thursday.
Leisha was awarded for her outstanding results in VET Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) when she received a study score of 49/50. The Premier’s Awards are given to the highest achievers in each VCE subject across the state for results achieved in 2015.
Leisha has commenced formal studies in Certificate IV in Patisserie at William Angliss in Melbourne. She has plans to eventually run her own patisserie business, but in the short term she is focused on building her industry specific skills and knowledge.
“The award came as a real surprise,” Leisha said. “I didn’t even know Premier’s Awards existed, but it’s really exciting, and nice to know that all the hard work I put in paid off.
“My teachers Peter Adams and Sue Maillard and my family gave me great support. I was able to complete my Food Technology folio on cakes which increased my understanding of how ingredients work together.”
BSSC Principal Dale Pearce said the Premier’s Award is a significant honour.
“Leisha should be very proud to receive this award. This is recognition of her hard work and dedication to study. She has shown a wonderful commitment to achieving her goal.
“The awards ceremony not only acknowledges the outstanding results of individual students, but also pays tribute to teachers and families, who all play an invaluable role in supporting and encouraging students during their VCE studies,” Mr Pearce said.
