VOLEYBALL – SSV STATE FINALS

Our volleyball teams were very competitive against the best teams in last week’s SSV State Finals. The girls team were defeated in their three round-robin games but made their opponents work hard for every point. They were unlucky not to win their last game against Maribyrnong, losing 15 – 11 in the deciding third set.

Well done to team members Luella Ansted, Susie Godfrey, McKinley Grills-Marsili, Tayla Matotek, Ellex Skinner, Kilby Todd, Bree Tranter, Olivia Walklate, and coach Julie Clyne.

The boys team had a win and two losses in their round-robin games. Their one win for the day was a fantastic achievement, as they defeated Eltham HS 20 – 12, 21 – 19. Eltham went on to win the state title and their only defeat all day was at the hands of the BSSC boys.

Great effort from team members Bryce Guley, Bailey Keck, Will Mandersloot, Brodie Poole, Lewis Roberts, Boyd Young, and coach Matt Poulter.

HOCKEY – LODDON MALLEE REGION FINALS

Mixed results for our hockey teams at this week’s Loddon Mallee Region finals. The girls team is off to the SSV State Finals after their dramatic final. In a great game against Wedderburn College, scores were tied at 2 – 2 at full time. The game was decided with a penalty shoot-out, which was won by BSSC 3 – 1.

Congratulations to team members Abbey Beecham, April Buccheri, Maddi Dobeli, Hayley Evans, Jorja Friswell, Grace Friswell, Zoe Green, Tori Ietto, Natalie Keating, Louise McClusky, Lauren Nyberg, Sarah Roulston, Gabbie Wheeler, Grace White, Jorgie Wright, and coach Dan Gibbons.

The boys team finished second in the competition. They scored an early goal (Hayden Pagram) in their first game against Mildura, but their opposition proved a little too strong in the latter stages to win 3 – 1. BSSC had a great win in their second game against St. Arnaud, winning 3 – 0, with goals from Matthew Wellman (2) and Callum Sims.

Great effort from all team members: Jacob Brown, Alex Grey-Looney, Alex Huthnance, Liam Langford, Eddy Neame, Hayden Pagram, Brodie Pearce, Yanwen Ross, Amir Seyedi, Callum Sims, Rex Stephenson, Oscar Van Veen, Matthew Wellman, Ieuan Wing, and coach Dan Gibbons.

SOCCER – LODDON MALLEE REGION FINALS

In similar results to our hockey teams, the BSSC girls soccer team has advanced to the SSV State finals after winning this week’s Loddon Mallee Region finals, whilst the boys were runners-up. In extremely windy and cold conditions, the girls team dominated their matches. They defeated Echuca 6 – 0 (Caitlin O’Bryan 3, Letesha Bawden 2, Shae Powney 1), and Swan Hill 11 – 0 (Maddy McGrory 4, Caitlyn O’Bryan 3, Tara Archbold 2, Shae Powney 1, Letesha Bawden 1).

Congratulations to team members Maddy Amy, Tara Archbold, Sharni Barker, Drew Barker, Letesha Bawden, Nathalie Betts, Bree Heiden, Jess Keating, Maddy McGrory, Jade Moule, Kayla Nichols, Caitlin O’Bryan, Shae Powney, Allira Walker, Lauren White, and coach Paige Conder.

Our boys team faced some very strong opposition in their matches. They went down 2 – 1 (Pa Naing) against St. Mary’s in their first game, but came back strongly with a 7 – 0 defeat of Swan Hill in the second game. Needing a win against Mildura in the last game to qualify for the SSV State Finals, our boys started well and scored the first goal (Mabior Kuol). Mildura steadied after that and managed to score two goals to win 2 – 1.

Great team effort from the BSSC team: Connor Boxshall, Oscar Capp, Charlie Garlick, Hser Htoo, Rozman Kawmar, Kaw Ku, Mabior Kuol, Moses Kuol, Kaw Yee Ler, Cress Ndikumana, Pa Naing, Brodie Poole, Jackson Rutter, Maxi Shanahan, Hser Nay Kaw, T’Natu, and coach Barnaby Seviour.

BADMINTON – LODDON MALLEE REGION FINALS

The BSSC girls badminton team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the SSV State Finals after a narrow loss to Nathalia SC in this week’s Loddon Mallee Region final. BSSC won two of the four singles matches and one of the two double matches, meaning that both teams won three matches. Nathalia accumulated a few more points than our girls to win 3 – 100, to 3 – 89.

Great effort from team members Tilly Saunderson, Alyssa Lai, Renee Chng, Amelia Hunt and coach Scott Collier.

Our boys badminton team (Mitch Graham, Alen Shaju, Hamish Wild, Bryce Purkiss, and Yuhang Sun) has automatically progressed to the SSV State Finals after their opponents failed to make the journey to Bendigo.

NETBALL (GIRLS) – SANDHURST DIVISIOIN

A solitary goal has prevented our netball girls from progressing to the Loddon Mallee Region finals. In this week’s Sandhurst Division competition, they defeated Marist College 38 – 7, then continued their good form to defeat Castlemaine SC 36 – 20. The winner of the competition came down to the last game against Catherine McAuley College. Our girls were in control for much of the game, until CMC scored a goal in the final seconds to win 20 – 19.

Great effort from all team members: Abbey Grindal, Abbey Hromenko, Hayley McLeod, Ella Wicks, Bree Heiden, Tia Reaper, Arriah Keogh, Christijana Holmes, Kayla Ashcroft, Charlotte Crook, and Mabel Kean.

AFL (GIRLS) – LODDON MALLEE REGION FINALS

Disappointing news for our girls footy team. The Loddon Mallee Region final against Mildura SC scheduled for earlier this week was cancelled. The BSSC team now automatically progresses to the SSV State quarter/semi-final on Friday 16 August in Ballarat.
