Congratulations to a number of our First Nation students on their personal achievements during NAIDOC Week.

At the BDAC Awards and Flag Raising Ceremony, Elyse Franklin was awarded the Phil Brusch Scholarship for her commitment to school through attendance and extra-curricular participation, her resilience, carer responsibilities and positivity to succeed.

Congratulations also to Amelia Leach who won the Zonta Indigenous Women’s Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution to Youth Parliament, BSSC and the wider community. She will be a guest speaker for Zonta at their International Women’s Day event in 2023.

At the Knaldoorong Art Exhibition at Dudley House, Josie Gower contributed the most stunning piece of hand-woven artwork titled ‘Rockpools’ and acknowledged Aunty Marilyn Nicholls as her teacher and inspiration. Keira Long contributed a beautiful painted portrait of herself and companion Nala. The backdrop depicted the night sky which connects and reminds Keira of her ancestors and history—titled ‘Myself and Dreamtime’
