What a great privilege it was to have Nevo Zisin at Strategem Studio during lunchtime on Monday to speak to students about the issues facing the LGBTQI community, and in particular, young people who identify as transgender.
The session, hosted by Vic Diversity, gave students a unique insight into Nevo’s perspective on gender identity, having identified as both female and male in their life, and now as transgender.
“Transgender is not all that I am,” Nevo said. “We’re all human beings, first and foremost. Labels can stop us from being who we are.”
Nevo also encouraged students to look beyond their school years.
“High school might feel like forever at the moment, but life continues afterwards. You have the chance to create your own life… to be fully yourself.”
