Dan gets his just desserts
Former BSSC student, Daniel Treacy, will feature on Channel Seven’s new show Zumbo’s Just Desserts.
The show pitches 12 contestants against each other as famed dessert creator Adriano Zumbo sets them a series of sugar-based challenges.
Mr Treacy is a recruitment officer by day, a security guard by night and in his spare time combines science with sugar while whipping up some creative desserts.
At 25 years old , Mr Treacy only began creating desserts about 18 months ago.
“I have been playing around for about a year and half and have spent a lot of time researching the theory of it,” he said.
“There’s been very little time put into the practical sense of it. I more enjoy studying up on all things food, especially desserts and I wouldn’t be interested in them if if wasn’t for Adriano Zumbo.”
The first thing Mr Treacy worked to master was macarons. He said it took him a number of attempts to get right.
“It was a Zumbo packet mix and I failed six to eight times,” he said.
“I don’t like failing, so I went back to the theory and research and reverse engineered to see where I went wrong.”
Mr Treacy prides himself of finding the most creative, boundary-pushing desserts.
“I’m interested in the French-style patisserie with a bit of avant-garde in it,” he said.
“I am not big fan eating my own desserts. I love eating stuff that is pushing boundaries.
“You won’t see me at a cafe for a basic slice, not that they’re bad but they aren’t enticing enough for me to give it a go. I tend to drive to Melbourne once a week to test out desserts and find new crazes.”
Not matter how long his time on Zumbo’s Just Desserts last, Mr Treacy has had a taste of the chef life and wants more.
“I definitely want a career out of this, there is no use wasting the opportunity,” he said.
“This might be flash in pan but I’m definitely looking to see what I can do.”
Zumbo’s Just Desserts will screen on Channel Seven after the Olympics.
